Soil & Water Conservation

What is Conservation of Soil and Water?

The Essex Region Conservation Authority addresses agricultural soil erosion and water quality issues by providing in-field technical advice through conservation farm planning, demonstration projects, education and by working closely with the farming community. The benefits of improved soil and water conservation are extremely important to the Essex Region since agriculture accounts for over 80% of land use in the region. Protecting soil and water means reducing watercourse sedimentation and protecting topsoil (annual loss for the county is 3 tonnes/ha/yr). Additionally, improved water quality will benefit fish and wildlife.
