Grants Available to Upgrade Your Septic System
And speaking of grants... ERCA also has grants available to landowners in the Detroit River watersheds, which include the Little River, Canard River and Turkey Creek watersheds who wish to upgrade their septic systems.
"Improperly functioning septic systems are one of the key contributors to poor water quality in our region," explains Matthew Child, Director of Watershed Restoration. "Helping to offset the expense of upgrading and repairing septic systems will help to improve water quality across the region."
Grants are available to cover up to 33% of the project cost, up to a maximum of $5,000. Applications must be approved prior to the work being undertaken. Approved work must be conducted by a licensed contractor. ERCA technical staff will assist landowners in completing the simple application process. New homes and additions and upgrades required through a municipal directive are not eligible for this grant program.
If you are interested in learning more about any of ERCA's grant programs, contact ERCA's Agricultural Technician, Michael Dick at 519-776-5209 ext. 369 or visit our website at www.erca.org.
