Change One Thing!
You can make a difference to the environmental health of your community! Consider doing at least one of the following suggestions:
- Every mature tree makes a significant contribution to the environment by providing habitat, shade and improving air quality. If you plant a tree, you will be helping wildlife and improving the quality of life for future generations. Choose a native species such as Silver Maple, Kentucky Coffeetree, Red Oak or Sycamore. It's easy to do and if you don't have a garden, you could arrange for a tree to be planted at the Living Legacy Forest or a Heritage Forest by calling ERCA at 519 776 5209.
- Or, have you considered opportunities to volunteer for conservation? What better way to help the environment than to get out there and do something yourself! Roll up your sleeves, make new friends and keep fit in the fresh air. A great place to start is with the Friends of Watershed group in your area. For more information about the Friends of Watersheds, please contact Caroline Biribauer, Friends of Watershed Organizer, at the Essex Region Conservation Authority, (519) 776-5209, ext. 245, or cbiribauer@erca.org. Fix any oil leaks so that contaminants are not washed by rain into storm drains and onwards to rivers and lakes - the sources of our drinking water.
