Maple March Break at the John R. Park Homestead
Thursday, Mar. 11, 2010
There's more maple fun to be had at the John R. Park Homestead during March Break! More than 800 people attended Essex County's only Maple Syrup Festival this past weekend, and the Homestead is pleased to offer another chance to join in on the fun through March Break!
On Tuesday, March 16th and again on Friday, March 19th at 1:30pm sharp, the Homestead will be hosting their popular 'Maple March Break for Families' programs. Visitors will tour the site with a costumed interpreter as they see the trees tapped and lend-a-hand with the maple chores. Pure maple sugar can be sampled in the 1842 kitchen, and families will learn the "Science of Maple" in this fun and educational program for the whole family to enjoy. "This presentation is geared especially for school-aged children and their families," encourages Curator Janet Cobban. Family Admission is $20.00.
The Homestead will also be celebrating the maple season with their 7th annual 'Maple Moon' evening program on Tuesday, March 16th. At this sugaring off party by candlelight, participants will be making maple syrup by the light of the moon, twisting taffy on the snow and joining in the old-fashioned barn dance. A special owl-prowl will also be featured, weather permitting. Pre-registration is required for this program. Admission is $11.00 per person. Register online at: www.onlineregistrations.ca/jrph .
The Homestead will be offering group maple programs for schools and organizations until the end of March! Call 519-738-2029 for details.
The Homestead is located at 915 County Road 50, east of Colchester- a 45 minute drive southeast of Windsor. For more information email: jrph@erca.org.
