Earth Friendly Fair 2009

Wednesday, Mar. 11, 2009

Kingsville - Imagine inviting your friends, family, and pets to your safe, chemical-free home and garden, instead of warning them to stay away! The Friends of Mill & Wigle Creeks (FOMWC) are hosting the Earth Friendly Fair 2009 on Thursday, March 26, from 6-9 pm, at the Lakeside Park Pavilion, located at 315 Queen Street in Kingsville. At 7:30 pm there will be an informative presentation by Dr. Veronika Mogyorody, Professor of Anthropology & Environmental Sociology from the University of Windsor.

This event is free of charge and refreshments will be available. The Earth Friendly Fair provides an opportunity for local residents to learn about the effects of chemicals on our environment, and to learn about the wide variety of natural and earth friendly alternatives for personal health, the home, and garden. On April 22, 2009, the Province of Ontario's ban on cosmetic pesticide use will take effect. By reducing the presence of toxic chemicals in our environment we can help improve water quality, protect our drinking water, enhance wildlife habitat, and improve our overall quality of life. Come out to the Earth Friendly Fair and learn how you too can be earth friendly in your home, garden and community.

The Earth Friendly Fair will have a variety of informational exhibits, vendors, and displays on hand, including BeJewelled, Citizens Environment Alliance, Colasanti's Tropical Gardens, Crepe Temptations, Detroit River Canadian Cleanup, Environmental Landscape Services, Essex Region Conservation Authority, Faerhaven Soaps, Friends of Watersheds, The Hippie Chick, John R. Park Homestead Conservation Area, Melaleuca: The Wellness Company, Native Trees & Plants, Natural Earth Organics, Naturalized Habitat Network, ShopEco Environmental Products, Wheatley Woods Native Plant Nursery, and more. Handouts will be available on a number of topics, including water smart gardening, backyard composting, impacts of pesticides on wild birds, lawn alternatives and organic care of groundcovers, organic fertilizers, organic weed control, natural insect management, natural plant disease management, and natural home-cleaning recipes.

Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information, please contact Caroline, Friends of Watersheds Organizer, at 519-776-5209, ext. 245, or cbiribauer@erca.org.
